CHAR DHAM YATRA

The Char Dham Yatra is a journey to four temples tucked deep in the Garhwal Himalayas. Adi Shankaracharya established this pilgrimage in the 8th century, and it has remained one of the most significant pilgrimages in Hinduism ever since. The circuit covers Yamunotri (Goddess Yamuna), Gangotri (Goddess Ganga), Kedarnath (Lord Shiva), and Badrinath (Lord Vishnu) — each sitting between 3,100 and 3,600 metres above sea level. Temples open between late April and early May and close around Diwali. The journey by road takes 10–12 days; by helicopter, all four dhams can be covered in 5 days.
